Chapter 24: The Photographs
Sienna
The email comes Monday morning.
**From: [email protected]**
**Subject: Immediate Meeting Required**
*Ms. Martinez,*
*Please report to my office at 3:30 PM today. This is regarding a serious matter.*
*-Principal Okafor*
Sienna’s hands shake as she reads it.
They know.
Somehow, they KNOW.
At 3:30, she walks into the office. Principal Okafor is there. So is the superintendent.
This is BAD.
“Sit, Ms. Martinez.”
Sienna sits.
“We received an anonymous tip. Along with photographs.”
Principal Okafor slides a manila envelope across the desk.
Sienna opens it.
Photos. Of her and Jace. Leaving her apartment. His arm around her. Kissing goodbye.
All from spring break.
“Did you have a sexual relationship with a parent?” the superintendent asks.
Sienna’s throat closes. She can’t lie.
“Yes. But not while actively teaching his daughter. It was spring break—”
“Spring break still counts, Ms. Martinez. You are employed by this district year-round.”
“I know. I’m sorry. We tried to wait. We really did. But—”
“But you couldn’t control yourself,” Principal Okafor finishes, disappointed.
“It’s not like that. We’re in love—”
“That’s irrelevant. You violated the trust of this school, this district, and most importantly, Harper Blackwell.”
“Harper doesn’t know—”
“She will. Everyone will.”
“What happens now?”
“You’re suspended pending investigation. Two weeks. We’ll determine if termination is warranted.”
Sienna’s world CRUMBLES.
“Please. I’ll do anything. Don’t fire me.”
“You should have thought of that before sleeping with a parent.”
