Chapter 30: Best Mistake Ever

Sienna

One year later.

Summer. The coffee shop where they first met.

“Why are we here?” Sienna asks as Jace leads her inside.

“Just wanted coffee. And nostalgia.”

They order. Same drinks as that first day. Caramel latte for her. Black coffee for him.

“Remember when they mixed up our drinks?” Sienna says, laughing.

“Best mistake ever.”

They sit at a table by the window. The same table from a year ago.

“Sienna,” Jace says. “Do you remember what you said to me that first day?”

“I said a LOT of things. I was rambling.”

“You said you were worried about your first teaching job. About turning kids feral.”

She laughs. “I remember.”

“And I said anyone who cares that much usually isn’t terrible.”

“You were right. I wasn’t terrible.”

“No. You were amazing. You ARE amazing.”

He stands. Gets down on one knee.

Sienna’s breath STOPS.

“You changed my life that day. Made me believe in second chances. In love. In FUTURE. You gave Harper a mother. You gave me a partner. You gave us both everything.”

He pulls out a ring box.

“Sienna Martinez, will you marry me?”

Tears stream down her face. “YES. Yes, yes, YES!”

He slides the ring on her finger. Stands. Kisses her.

The entire coffee shop CHEERS.

Including Harper, who’s been hiding at a table with Jace’s mom this whole time.

“YOU KNEW?!” Sienna laughs.

“Dad told me this morning! Can I be your maid of honor?!”

“Obviously!”

They hug—all three of them—right there in the coffee shop.

And Sienna thinks: *This is it.*

*This is happily ever after.*

EPILOGUE

Six months after the proposal. Two years since a coffee shop mix-up changed everything.

Small wedding. Family and close friends.

Harper is junior bridesmaid in purple (her choice).

Jace cries when Sienna walks down the aisle.

Their vows:

Jace: “You were my second chance. My coffee shop miracle. My EVERYTHING. I promise to love you, support you, and never let our drinks get mixed up again.”

Sienna: “You were my first REAL love. My patient man. My FAMILY. I promise to love you, laugh with you, and drive you crazy in the best ways.”

They kiss as husband and wife.

Harper SCREAMS her approval.

Later, at the reception, Harper corners them.

“So can I call you MOM now?”

Sienna’s eyes fill with tears. “If you want to.”

“I want to.”

“Then yes. I’m your mom.”

They hug, and Jace watches his wife and daughter and thinks:

*We made it.*

*Through scandal and separation and six months of staying apart and a year of rebuilding everything from the ground up.*

*Two years from coffee shop to altar. Worth every painful second.*

That night, Jace and Sienna lie in bed in their hotel room.

“Was it worth it?” he asks. “The wait, the scandal, everything?”

“Every second. I’d wait forever for you.”

“Same.”

They fall asleep wrapped around each other.

And somewhere in the universe, two coffee cups sit on a counter.

One caramel latte.

One black coffee.

Waiting to be mixed up again.

But this time, the people drinking them are exactly where they belong.

Together.

Forever.
