The clash echoed through the clearing, steel ringing against steel. Mira’s father moved with surprising speed, his blade slicing through the air with the weight of years of skill. Darius met him strike for strike, his power controlled, every movement precise.

Mira stood frozen at the edge, her chest tight. Each clash of metal was more than a fight—it was a demand, a plea, a test carved in blood and sweat.

“You think you’re worthy of her?” her father snarled, forcing Darius back a step. “She is not a prize to be claimed.”

“I’ve never seen her as one,” Darius growled, catching the next blow with a sharp twist of his blade. “She is my equal. My fire. My undoing.”

The words landed heavier than any strike. Mira’s heart stuttered, the bond surging in her veins at the truth laid bare.

Her father pressed harder, grief and fury lacing every movement. “You’ll destroy her. Like this curse destroyed you.”

Darius’s teeth bared, his voice hoarse. “Then let her destroy me. I would rather burn at her side than live untouched without her.”

The clearing went silent except for the ragged sound of their breaths. The words hung there, raw and unshakable.

Mira’s father faltered, his blade dipping, the fight bleeding out of him. He turned, his face etched with anguish as he looked at his daughter.

“You hear him,” he said, his voice breaking. “And still you choose him?”

Tears blurred Mira’s vision, but her voice was steady. “Yes. Even if it ruins me. Even if it ruins us both.”

Her father closed his eyes, the fight leaving him completely. His sword fell to the earth with a dull thud.

The bond pulsed, stronger than ever, sealing the words spoken in blood and fire. Words that could never be taken back.
