The Council called it a Starlight Union—the official ceremony for bonded pairs who chose to make their commitment public.

Liana called it unnecessary.

“We’re already bonded,” she argued, watching Maya help her into a dress. “Literally soul-bonded. What’s more committed than that?”

“It’s symbolic,” Maya said, adjusting the fabric. “And it makes it official in the eyes of society. Plus, you get a party.”

The dress was simple—white with silver embroidery that matched her constellation marks. Those were on full display now, tracing down her spine and across her shoulders. She’d learned to stop hiding them.

“Kaelen’s nervous,” Suki reported, slipping into the room. “I’ve never seen him nervous. It’s adorable.”

“He shouldn’t be nervous. This was his idea.”

It had been, actually. Three months after they’d moved into their new home, Kaelen had asked her—awkwardly, sweetly—if she wanted to do the official ceremony. Make their bond recognized legally, socially, permanently.

Liana had said yes immediately.

The ceremony was held at sunset in the training center’s garden. Small, intimate. Just the marked community, a few Council representatives, and close friends. Maya stood as Liana’s witness. Suki stood for Kaelen.

Magistrate Voss officiated, which felt right. She’d been there from the beginning.

“We gather to witness the Starlight Union of Liana and Kaelen,” Voss began. “Two souls chosen by the cosmos, tested by fire, proven in battle. They stand before us not because fate demanded it, but because they chose it.”

Liana met Kaelen’s eyes across the small aisle. He looked stunning in simple black, his silver eyes bright with emotion. Through the bond, she felt his love, his certainty, his joy.

“The marks chose them,” Voss continued. “But they chose each other. That is the true bond we celebrate today.”

The ceremony was brief—statements of commitment, exchanging of tokens (silver bands that Kaelen had commissioned, engraved with their constellation patterns), the official blessing of their union.

“By the power vested in me by the Council and the marked community,” Voss said, smiling, “I declare your bond recognized and honored. You may seal this union.”

Kaelen crossed to Liana in three long strides and kissed her like the world was ending and beginning simultaneously. The bond flared between them, visible to everyone—silver light that wrapped around them both.

The gathered marked erupted in cheers.

When they finally pulled apart, both were glowing—literally. Their marks blazed bright, responding to the depth of their connection.

“Hello, husband,” Liana said, testing the word.

“Hello, wife,” Kaelen replied, grinning like an idiot. “How does it feel?”

“Exactly the same as five minutes ago. But also different.” She laughed. “That makes no sense.”

“It makes perfect sense.”

The party afterward was exactly what Liana had needed without knowing it. Music, dancing, food, celebrating with people who understood what they’d survived. Maya got drunk and made a toast that was equal parts touching and embarrassing. Suki challenged Kaelen to a dance-off that he gracefully lost.

Late in the evening, Liana and Kaelen slipped away from the celebration, finding a quiet corner of the garden.

“Thank you,” Kaelen said softly.

“For what?”

“For saying yes. For choosing this. For—” He gestured between them. “All of it.”

“You say that like I had a choice.” At his expression, she laughed. “I’m kidding. Of course I chose you. I choose you every day.”

“Even knowing how stubborn I am?”

“Especially knowing how stubborn you are.” She kissed him gently. “We match that way.”

They stayed in the garden until the stars came out, the bond humming peacefully between them. Officially married now. Legally, socially, cosmically bound.

“So,” Kaelen said eventually. “Wife. What do we do now?”

“Now?” Liana looked up at the stars—the same stars that had marked them months ago. “Now we live. Build our home. Train the marked. Have adventures. Get that dog we talked about.”

“A dog?”

“You promised. House with a view, garden, dog. Those were the terms.”

“I remember.” He pulled her closer. “Alright. Let’s get a dog. And everything else.”

“Everything else,” Liana agreed.

They returned to the party hand in hand, ready for whatever came next.

Together.

Always together.
