The retreat to the friend’s cabin, a sanctuary of peace and solitude, had provided Rachel with a much-needed respite from the chaos of her recent past. She was slowly, painstakingly, healing, reconnecting with her true self, finding solace in her art and the unwavering support of her friend. The viral bride revenge, the public humiliation of Mark and Melanie, and the lingering echoes of scandal all seemed distant, overshadowed by the quiet rhythm of her new life.
But the peace was short-lived.
Her diary goes missing. Her sister shows up—with threats. One quiet morning, as Rachel sat at her desk, immersed in her work, a subtle sound. The front door. A soft creak. A presence. Not her friend. But someone else. In her cabin.
Rachel gasped, a strangled cry of disbelief and profound horror. She froze, her heart hammering against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat of pure terror. She heard a rustling sound, a faint whisper, then a voice. A woman’s voice. Familiar. Undeniable. Melanie.
Melanie stood in the doorway, her face grim, her eyes burning with a cold, unwavering resolve. She held a small, leather-bound book in her hand, its cover worn smooth from years of handling, its pages yellowed with age. Rachel’s diary.
“Surprised, Rachel?” Melanie snarled, her voice low, raw with emotion, yet filled with an unnerving bitterness. “Did you think you could just disappear? Hide in the woods? And get away with it? Did you think you could expose us? Humiliate us? And not pay the price?”
“What do you want, Melanie?” Rachel whispered, her voice trembling with fear, yet firm and unwavering. “What have you done?”
Melanie chuckled, a low, guttural sound that sent another shiver down her spine. “I want what’s mine, Rachel. I want my life back. My reputation. My future. And I want you to pay. For everything you’ve done. For everything you’ve taken from me.”
She opened the diary, her fingers trembling as she read. Her own words. Her secret thoughts. Her raw emotions. Her deepest fears and hopes. All exposed. All laid bare. All read aloud by her sister.
“You wrote about everything, didn’t you, Rachel?” Melanie sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Every little detail. Every little secret. Every little lie. How convenient. How utterly predictable. But don’t worry, Rachel. I’ll make sure everyone knows. Everyone will know the truth. About you. About your profound deception. About your manipulative nature. About your desperate need for attention. About your profound jealousy.”
Her diary goes missing. Her sister shows up—with threats. The threats were chilling, terrifying, yet undeniable. Melanie was prepared to expose her. To destroy her. To drag her name through the mud. To make her pay for every tear she had shed, for every moment of pain she had caused her.
