POV: DORIAN

We returned from the underground forest changed.

Not just from shifting together—though that had been transformative. But from the honesty. The vulnerability. The admission that we loved each other despite everything.

As we entered our chambers, the air between us felt charged with possibility.

“Dorian,” Nova said, turning to face me. “I meant what I said. In the forest. About loving you.”

“I know. I felt the truth through the bond.”

“Then you also know what I want right now.”

I did. Through the bond, her desire blazed clear and undeniable. But I needed to hear her say it. Needed to know she was choosing this freely.

“Tell me anyway,” I said.

She crossed to me, amber eyes fierce and certain. “I want you. Completely. No more careful distance. No more holding back because of the past. I want to claim you as mine and be claimed in return.”

“Nova—”

“I’m sure, Dorian. More sure than I’ve been about anything.” She took my hands. “We’ve danced around this for months. Shared a bed but nothing more. Been careful and respectful and so gods-damned polite.” Her voice dropped. “I’m done being polite. I want my mate.”

The word—mate, said with such certainty—broke the last of my restraint.

I kissed her. Not gentle or careful, but claiming. Twenty years of wanting, months of waiting, centuries of loneliness pouring into that kiss.

She responded with equal fervor, her hands tangling in my hair, her body pressing against mine like she couldn’t get close enough.

We stumbled toward the bed, shedding clothes in our wake. When we fell onto the mattress together, skin against skin for the first time, the bond flared so bright it was almost painful.

“Are you certain?” I asked one last time, needing her absolute consent.

“I’ve never been more certain of anything. Make love to me, Dorian. Claim me. Make this bond complete in every possible way.”

I did.

Slowly at first—learning her body, discovering what made her gasp and arch and whisper my name like a prayer. She was beautiful in her pleasure, fierce and demanding and utterly magnificent.

When I finally entered her, the bond exploded. I felt everything she felt—pleasure and love and absolute rightness. And she felt me too, centuries of loneliness ending in this moment, this woman, this impossible grace.

We moved together like we’d been made for this, the bond making us perfectly synchronized. Every touch, every kiss, every whispered word of love driving us higher.

When we finally reached completion, it was together—her crying my name as I shuddered in her arms, the bond cementing so completely that I knew: this was forever. Not just politically. Not just because fate said so. But because we’d chosen it.

Chosen each other.

Afterwards, we lay tangled together, both breathing hard, the bond humming contentedly.

“That was—” Nova struggled for words. “Everything. That was everything.”

“Yes.”

She propped herself up on my chest, studying my face. “Do you regret it?”

“Never. Not for one second. Do you?”

“The opposite of regret. I feel… complete. Like something that was missing just fell into place.”

I brushed hair from her face, marveling that I got to touch her like this. “I love you, Nova. With everything I am. Everything I’ve been. Everything I’ll become.”

“I love you too. Monster and man. Destroyer and builder. All of you.”

We made love again—slower this time, savoring instead of desperate. Learning each other thoroughly, cementing the bond that would tie us for eternity.

As dawn approached and Nova dozed in my arms, I thought about Julia. My first wife, who I’d loved and lost.

I felt her approval through the memories. She’d wanted me to move on, to love again, to not spend eternity punishing myself.

I’d finally honored that wish.

And in doing so, found something I never expected: true partnership. Someone who knew my worst acts and loved me anyway. Someone fierce enough to challenge me and brave enough to forgive.

Nova stirred, amber eyes blinking open. “What are you thinking about?”

“Julia. My first wife.”

She tensed slightly. “And?”

“And I think she’d approve of you. Of us. She always said I needed someone strong enough to keep me honest.” I kissed her forehead. “You’re exactly that strong.”

“I’m not trying to replace her.”

“You’re not. You’re something entirely new. A second chance I never thought I’d get. A love I don’t deserve but will spend eternity being grateful for.”

She kissed me—soft and slow and full of promise. “Then let’s stop talking about deserving and just focus on what we have. Right now. Together.”

“Deal.”

We stayed in bed until midday, making love and talking and simply being together without the weight of past or politics pressing down.

It was the best day of my three-century life.

And when we finally emerged, I knew everyone would see the change. The completed bond would be obvious in how we moved together, touched casually, existed in perfect sync.

Let them see. Let the whole fortress know that the general and his wolf bride were truly, completely bonded.

Let Isolde rage. Let the council gossip. Let everyone who’d tried to keep us apart or use us as pawns see that we’d chosen each other despite them.

This was real. This was forever.

And nothing would tear us apart.

Not politics. Not history. Not the entire vampire court.

We were mated. Bonded. Eternally tied.

And I’d never been more grateful for fate’s cruel joke that had brought her to me.

My mate. My love. My impossible grace.

Nova Redwolf Vale.

Mine. Finally, completely mine.

As I was hers.
