Nine months later, Tessa gave birth to their third child.

A boy. Jackson Reid Thorne. Jack for short.

“We have three kids,” Liam said, staring at his newborn son. “Three.”

“I know.”

“How did this happen?”

“Do you really need me to explain—”

“I meant how did we get here. From that one night to—to this. Three kids. A full house. A complete family.”

Tessa looked at their family. Leo, now six. Emma, almost two. And Jack, brand new.

“We chose it,” she said simply. “Every day. Every hard moment. Every choice. We chose this.”

“Best choice I ever made.”

“Me too.”

The first month with three kids was survival mode.

“I’ve forgotten what sleep is,” Tessa said, nursing Jack at 3 AM.

“What even is sleep?” Liam asked, changing Emma’s diaper for the third time that night.

They were zombies. Exhausted. Running on fumes.

But also—also so full of love.

Leo was obsessed with being a big brother. Helped with everything. Read to his siblings. Protected them fiercely.

Emma was adjusting to not being the baby anymore. Some jealousy. But mostly excitement about her new brother.

And Jack—Jack was perfect. Easy baby. Slept well. Ate well.

“We got lucky with this one,” Liam said.

“Third time’s the charm.”

Julian and Madison had their baby two months after Jack. A girl. Lily.

“We’re all parents now,” Julian said at a family dinner. “How did that happen?”

“We grew up,” Tessa said.

“Scary thought.”

But it was true. They’d all grown up. Found their people. Built their families. Created—created lives worth living.

“To family,” Rose toasted. “The one we’re born into and the one we choose.”

“To family,” everyone echoed.

Tessa looked around the table. Liam beside her, Jack in his arms. Leo and Emma arguing about toys. Julian and Madison with baby Lily. Rose beaming at all of them.

This was family. Real family. Chosen. Built. Loved.

Not perfect. But real.

And that was more than enough.

That was everything.

Six months after Jack’s birth, Liam came home with news.

“The architecture firm wants to expand. Open a second office. And they want me to run it.”

Tessa looked up from feeding Jack. “That’s amazing! Congratulations!”

“There’s a catch.”

“What kind of catch?”

“It means more hours. More travel. More—more time away from you and the kids. And I don’t know if I want that. Don’t know if it’s worth it.”

Tessa set down the bottle. “What do you want to do?”

“I don’t know. The opportunity is huge. Career-wise. Financially. But family-wise—I’d be missing things. Bedtimes. Dinners. Important moments. And I already missed two years with Leo. I don’t want to miss anything else.”

“Then don’t take it.”

“But the money—”

“We don’t need it. We’re comfortable. Happy. We have everything we need. Don’t sacrifice time with the kids for a job you don’t even love that much.”

“You sure?”

“Completely sure. Liam, you’re an amazing father. The kids adore you. Don’t give that up for a promotion you’re not even excited about.”

He pulled her close. “How did I get so lucky?”

“We both got lucky. Now go turn down that job and come play trucks with your kids.”

“Best idea I’ve heard all day.”

That evening, after all three kids were asleep, Tessa and Liam sat on the couch.

“I turned it down,” Liam said.

“How do you feel?”

“Relieved. Like I made the right choice.”

“You did. Family first. Always.”

“Always,” he agreed.

They sat in comfortable silence. Exhausted. Happy. Complete.

“You know what I realized today?” Tessa said.

“What?”

“We’re happy. Really, truly happy. And I don’t think I’ve ever been able to say that before. Not honestly. But now—now I can. We have three amazing kids. We have each other. We have this life we built. And I’m happy. So happy.”

“Me too. Despite the chaos and the exhaustion and the constant noise—I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

“Good. Because this is it. This is our life. Our family. Our forever.”

“And I wouldn’t change a single thing.”

“Not even the part where I ran away and hid your son for two years?”

Liam thought about it. “Okay, maybe I’d change that part. But everything else? Perfect.”

Tessa laughed. “Fair enough.”

They sat together, listening to the baby monitor, knowing one of the kids would wake up soon, knowing tomorrow would be just as chaotic as today.

But also knowing—knowing with absolute certainty—that this was exactly where they were supposed to be.

Together. With their three kids. In their perfectly imperfect life.

This was home. This was love. This was—

This was everything they’d ever wanted. Everything they’d fought for. Everything they’d built together.

One choice at a time. One day at a time. One moment at a time.

Forever.

And Tessa had never been more grateful for anything in her life.

For this family. This man. This life.

All of it.

Forever.
