Twenty years after that night at the frat party, Tessa and Liam renewed their vows.
“Is this necessary?” Tessa asked, looking at the venue Rose had booked.
“Absolutely,” Rose said. “Twenty years together. Fifteen years married. You deserve to celebrate.”
“We just want small—”
“This IS small. Only a hundred people.”
Liam laughed. “Rose, that’s not small.”
“It’s intimate. Trust me.”
The kids were excited. Leo, now twenty, was in college. Emma, fifteen. Jack, fourteen. All involved in planning.
“What should we wear?” Emma asked.
“Whatever you want,” Tessa said.
“Can I wear the same dress from your first wedding?”
“You were one. That dress won’t fit.”
“I meant a similar one!”
Planning the vow renewal was chaotic. But fun. A reason to celebrate—celebrate surviving twenty years. Three kids. Life’s chaos.
The ceremony was beautiful. Backyard again. Just like their first wedding. Full circle.
“Twenty years ago, I fell in love with you,” Liam said, holding her hands. “And every day since, I’ve fallen deeper. You gave me Leo. Emma. Jack. You gave me—gave me everything. And I want twenty more years. Forty more. Forever more. I choose you. Still. Always. Forever.”
Tessa was crying. “Twenty years ago, I was terrified. Terrified of loving you. Of—of being real. Of staying instead of running. But you made me brave. Made me—made me believe I was worth choosing. And every day since, you’ve proven it. You’re my person. My home. My forever. I choose you too. Still. Always. Until the end.”
They kissed. Everyone cheered. And their three kids stood at the front, beaming with pride.
“That was gross,” Jack whispered to Emma.
“That was sweet,” Emma corrected.
“Still gross. They’re old.”
“They’re in love, dummy.”
At the reception, Leo gave a toast.
“Mom and Dad,” he started. “You’ve been together my entire life. Literally. I was there from the beginning. Kind of the reason for the beginning, actually.” Laughter. “And I’ve watched you love each other. Fight for each other. Choose each other. Every single day. That’s—that’s what I want someday. What you have. So thank you. For showing me what real love looks like. For—for being the example. I love you both.”
More crying. From everyone.
Julian’s toast: “Twenty years ago, my best friend and my sister hid a relationship from me. Had a baby. And I was furious. But watching them now—watching this family they built—I’m just grateful. Grateful they were brave enough to try. Brave enough to—to fix things. Brave enough to build this. To Tessa and Liam. Twenty more years.”
Rose’s toast: “I’ve known these kids their whole lives. Watched them grow up. Make mistakes. Fall in love. Build a family. And I couldn’t be prouder. To twenty more years of love, chaos, and family.”
The party lasted late into the night. Dancing. Laughing. Celebrating.
And when everyone left, Liam carried Tessa over the threshold of their home. Again.
“Still cheesy,” she laughed.
“Still traditional.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too. Twenty years down. Forever to go.”
“Forever sounds perfect.”
They went upstairs to find their three kids sprawled across the living room, asleep. Jack on the couch. Emma in the chair. Leo on the floor.
“Should we wake them?” Liam whispered.
“No. Let them sleep.”
They covered each kid with blankets. Kissed foreheads. Turned off lights.
Their family. Complete. Happy. Theirs.
Twenty years. Three kids. A lifetime of memories.
And they were just getting started.
“Best twenty years of my life,” Tessa whispered.
“Mine too. Here’s to twenty more.”
“And twenty after that.”
“And forever.”
“Forever.”
They went to bed, wrapped in each other, grateful for every moment. Every choice. Every—every piece of this life they’d built.
Together.
Always together.
Forever.
